Developed Five Scientific Stakeholder Archetypes to Guide Medical Engagement in Oncology
The Challenge
Moving Beyond Traditional KOL Identification
A Medical Affairs team needed a more nuanced understanding of its scientific stakeholder landscape. Conventional KOL rankings provided limited differentiation between research leaders, experienced clinicians, scientific communicators and emerging experts, making it difficult to characterize stakeholders against different scientific engagement objectives.
Our Approach
Building Multidimensional Scientific Profiles
1. Scientific Evidence Integration
- Combined publications, clinical trials, scientific networks, congress participation and relevant clinical experience indicators.
- Assessed different dimensions of scientific expertise and activity.
2. Archetype Development
- Developed five scientific stakeholder archetypes using evidence-based classification rules.
- Established measurable indicators and thresholds for each scientific dimension.
3. Validation & Stakeholder Profiling
- Evaluated archetype assignments against existing expert lists and stakeholder characteristics.
- Examined overlaps, archetype distribution and supporting evidence at the HCP level.
The Results
Five Distinct Scientific Stakeholder Profiles
- Five evidence-based scientific stakeholder archetypes.
- Transparent classification methodology and HCP-level profiles.
- Scientific landscape analysis across stakeholder groups.
- Foundation for differentiated scientific engagement planning.
